But we’ll often disturb our target in the first shot with the flash and make it fly/run away. We need to make a large number of shots in macro shooting. I even witnessed that the high-frequency sound, which we hear while the flash is charging, repelled some insects. Most insects are quite responsive to a flash that fires nearby. We have to adapt to the natural light to achieve colorful and bright backgrounds. So we can find dark backgrounds in our photos even in daylight. Because the flash light is much stronger than daylight and the camera settings suit that powerful flash light. Even when shooting in daylight, the light of our flash illuminates only our insect and its surroundings. Macro shooting features, such as aperture narrowing and high magnification often require a strong flash. When shooting with the flash, the background light will decrease as it moves away from the flash. All this shows our model not in space but in its natural environment, making it real. In the same way, our photo shows the color reflections from all the objects around. For example, those who make 3D modeling know and pay attention to the diffusion of the light in the sky and in the clouds and the light coming from all directions is important for the natural appearance. If we want to take the closest picture to what we see with our eyes, we need to use this light. The most natural answer to the question of “why natural light” is that we see the world we live in with natural light (daylight). Sometimes we won’t be able to reach our goal, and we’re just gonna come back empty-handed. In the next articles I’ll tell you about the sample shots from the field and the different situations we have encountered. First, let’s discuss the equipment needs of the work, how to follow a path and its challenges. So I’m going to look at it in a couple of different articles. The use of natural light is technically a bit advanced. ![]() But the shooting is going to be a very difficult process. If we can use the natural light correctly by putting aside our light sources such as flash or led light, our little friends will look much more real in our photos. I want to show you how to use different techniques rather than creating confusion. Now I will write the opposite and praise the macro photography without a flash. Visit the Adaptalux Kickstarter Campaign here.įor more on Macro Photography, visit here.I mentioned in a previous article how important it is to use the flash in macro photography. The Kickstarter campaign runs through and as of today, has raised $58,602 (£39,463) of the $148,500 (£100,000) it needs for funding. ![]() In addition to diffusers and Filters, there is a “Stage” (small platform that illuminates from beneath) and a “backdrop” which allows for, well… color and design backdrops! The Effects Components are light modifying units that can diffuse, filter, or otherwise modify the light and attach to the light emitting end of the Lighting Arms. – Allows for quick connection and detachment of Effect Components Effects Components: – Stable high brightness allowing shutter speeds of over 1/1000th of a second to be used – Quick and easy to connect to the Control Pod This means colours look incredibly natural, allowing great photos and videos to be captured – All LEDs used have a CRI of at least 80. – Light color control, colors available:- standard white, red, blue, green and amber There are currently 5 colors available including a 6200 Kelvin Cool White. The lighting arms are flexible 300mm (11.8″) long tentacles that plug into the Pod via a magnetic socket. – Allows for up to five Lighting Arms to be connected Lighting Arms: – Can be used independently, mounted to a camera via a cold shoe provided or mounted to a tripod – Can also be directly powered from USB via computer or mains ![]() – Low battery indicator and charging complete indicator – Rechargeable built-in battery via USB wall charger (provided) or via a computer – 2.5 hour battery life (3 white lights on at 50% brightness constantly) – User set sleep mode which remembers settings of current lighting set-up – Automatically awakens and turns on when a Lighting Arm is connected – Quick and precise independent brightness control using our three button system. Key features of the Control Pod include:. With 5 ‘ports’ to fit lighting elements into, the pod controls the intensity of the lighting instruments. The Adaptalux Pod is the control unit of the system. Introducing the Adaptalux – a Macro Photography Lighting Studio! Not your average three point lighting, mind you, but a very cool 5 point setup that will fit in your camera bag. There is a unique Kickstarter campaign going on and it’s for a lighting studio of sorts. ![]()
